Our first dinner together in Zurich, July 4, 2022

Zurich, 4 July 2022 — the first dinner.

Our Story

We met at the Zurich Airport on July 4, 2022 during a law school trip. We went to dinner that night, where we had such an engaging conversation that Michael snapped a photo to remember the moment. We proceeded to celebrate the holiday together at a local bar we found called Stars and Stripes, and from there, our story really began. We spent the rest of the summer traveling across Europe together.

Where did you two meet?

We met at the Zurich airport, where we both arrived a day early for our work and study abroad program through the Immigrant Justice Clinic. From Zurich, we headed to Konstanz, Germany together before eventually making our way to Giessen. Little did we know that arriving a day early would be the start of our story.

How did he propose?

Michael proposed on a sunset boat ride overlooking Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval, surprising Allie with a ring (and boat ride) that she’ll never forget. Watch the moment here: Engagement Video

Our magic moment in Rio

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

We haven’t decided just yet, but Sicily is definitely at the top of our list.

What’s the most memorable trip you’ve taken together?

One of our most memorable trips was to Cartagena. It was one of the first trips we took together when we started dating, and it gave us a chance to spend some quality time just the two of us while exploring a new city together.

What’s your favorite memory together?

One of our favorite memories together was visiting the butterfly garden in Konstanz after we first met. It was such a special experience getting to explore it together, and it became one of those early memories that we’ll always look back on fondly.

What’s your favorite activity to do together?

Our favorite activities are cooking together, going for walks, and trying new foods and restaurants. We love discovering new places and, of course, enjoying a good meal along the way!

What’s your most memorable date?

One of our most memorable dates was going to the Sambadrome in Rio de Janeiro for Carnaval—a night filled with incredible music, dancing, costumes, and energy that we’ll never forget.

What’s the best meal you’ve shared together?

Our favorite meal to share when we eat out is the cacio e pepe with truffle from Forte dei Marmi. It’s our go-to spot for birthday dinners in South Beach, and that dish is always a must-order! When we’re cooking at home, we have two favorite meals. One is crispy chicken with spicy vodka pasta, using chilis from our garden to make the sauce. The other is steak with homemade chimichurri sauce.

Getting Here & Around

We recommend flying into Dane County Regional Airport (MSN), about 15 minutes by car from the venue. Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is also a great choice, just over an hour’s drive from Madison.

  • From MSN. An Uber, Lyft or taxi downtown takes about 15 minutes and runs about $21. Staying at the Hilton? Book its complimentary airport shuttle with the hotel before you arrive. Metro bus D2 also leaves from Door 6 ($2).
  • Renting a car. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and National all have counters in the MSN baggage claim. Rental cars at MSN
  • From Milwaukee. Badger Bus runs to Madison.
  • From Chicago O’Hare. The Van Galder bus runs to the UW campus (Lake St).
  • You probably won’t need a car downtown. The hotels, Monona Terrace and The Madison Club are all a short walk apart.
  • Parking. Wilson Street Garage (20 E Wilson St, next to The Madison Club): $8 weekend maximum, $10 on special-event days. Embassy Suites is valet-only ($40); self-parking at the Hilton is $28.

Please RSVP by May 15 so we can get an accurate headcount. :)

Can I bring a date?

Check your invitation to see if you have a +1!

Are kids welcome?

We love your little ones, but the ceremony and reception are adults-only. However, we know some of you will be traveling with kids, so they’re welcome at the Friday welcome party for those of you traveling from out of town and the Sunday brunch! Please reach out if you have any questions!

What if I have dietary restrictions?

We want everyone to enjoy the meal! When you RSVP right here on our website, you can tell us about food allergies and dietary preferences for each person in your party. If you are replying by mail, please write your dietary needs directly on the RSVP card before sending it back.

The Day

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Guests can start arriving at 3:45 pm. The ceremony will begin right at 4:30 pm.

What’s the dress code?

Semi-Formal: suits and cocktail dresses are welcome

Can we use our phones and cameras to take photos during the wedding?

We kindly ask that you keep phones and cameras put away during the ceremony, so everyone can be fully present with us — our photographer will be capturing every moment. Once the ceremony is over, snap away! We’d love for you to take photos at the reception and share them with us.

The Venue

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Indoors!

Are the ceremony and reception spaces wheelchair accessible?

Yes!

Where can I park?

There is plenty of parking available nearby.

Hilton parking ramp: 9 East Wilson Street, Madison, WI 53703

Wilson Street Garage: 20 East Wilson Street, Madison, WI 53703

Monona Terrace Ramp: 1 John Nolen Drive, Madison, WI 53703

What’s the weather like?

Welcome to Madison, out-of-towners! The weather can change fast, especially by the lake. Days are usually comfortable—around 65–78°F depending on the season—but evenings can get breezy, so be sure to bring an extra layer.

Which hotel should I book?

We recommend the Hilton Madison Monona Terrace, where we’re staying too. It’s right next door to the ceremony and reception, connected to Monona Terrace for the welcome party, and has a complimentary shuttle from the Madison airport (group code 94C). If you’d like more space or you’re bringing kids, the Embassy Suites is two minutes away, has suites with breakfast included, and is where we’ll be for Sunday brunch. Both rates end in late May, and it’s the Fourth of July weekend, so booking soon is best.
